Unclear mission objectives multiple times and lots of ships crashing into each other sometimes failing the mission for you

Just an amazing battle, from start to finish. Every mission is really well-polished and fun to fly. The mission with the asteroid was really impressive and I didn't know this was possible until playing it. Play this battle immediately!

A very fun free mission! Besides being quite refreshing playing new EH missions in TFTC, this one was exciting to fly and very well designed.

How does this have so many 5 star reviews?? Clearly there was a lot of effort put into it, but it's unacceptable how annoying some of the missions are. As others have stated, there are too many missions with mission critical craft crashing into each other and dying, forcing you to fly over and over again trying different orders of operation or different timing so that they don't die. Not to mention several missions when the objective is unclear or it's not clear which ships are friend or foe (allies come up with "target closest enemy" or "unknown" ID craft that cannot be inspected). Whatever effort did go into the battle is far overshadowed by these annoyances which feel exponentially worse due to the length of the battle.

A very fun battle - complex design, engaging plot, and entertaining missions. Play it!

Possible bug in mission 2, with some of the TIE Advanced getting stuck trying to enter hyperspace, but which seemed to be avoided by heeding the briefing's advice to avoid damaging them too much.

I'm guessing this battle worked better back when all the positive reviews were written. It's horribly buggy for me. The Praetor doesn't work and the PES are horribly ineffective when you really need the intended ship. In two missions the Orthanc withdrawing, which is listed as an objective, fails the mission. In another, the crafts that need to hyper out aren't enough to satisfy the objective so it never ends. It seems to work correctly on some missions in certain difficulties, but not other missions on the same difficulty so I kept having to swap to see which one worked. Very annoying.

I may be biased because I had the benefit of Vanguard's tips, which helped me to complete mission 3 on the first try, but I thought the battle was actually pretty fun. The biggest struggle I had was actually in mission 1, as it's tough to know which ships are enemies/which you should kill on your first run, so let me pass on the kindness with tips for mission 1.

(Don't read the following if you want to figure it out for yourself)

You can destroy the first few X-wings, then the second wave of X-wings quickly so that the B-wings can disable X-wing Jedi. Then A-wings come that will target you at the same time an enemy transport comes (Repair) - don't be fooled, this isn't your transport and you need to kill it while dodging the A-wings. Then finish the A-wings, and your own transport (Steal) will come. Protect it from the final wave of X-wings and you'll win.

The rest of the missions were good, but I have to drop the score a couple points for the frustration of the first mission. The briefing alludes to it, but the in-mission objectives aren't clear that you need to inspect the containers or some of the lifters won't launch to pick them up. And your strike cruiser leaves so quickly, that in fact you need to IMMEDIATELY inspect the containers at the start of the mission or else one of the lifters won't make it back in time before it hypers away. I had to replay it several times just because of these issues.

I thought this battle was overrated. There were several annoying things like starting at <100% shields, starting about to crash into a factory and having to turn immediately, and the fourth mission, which was unnecessarily difficult compared to the other missions for no reason. I like having to be tactical in the approach to missions, and I know some may like having to do things like disable some enemies and leave them alive just to offset the rhythm of the next group spawning, but I don't as it destroys any realism and it's annoying to only figure that out after dying against overwhelming odds. Most missions were okay other than the annoying parts.

It was fine until mission 5, which seems to be unbeatable on Easy FYI. Some of the friendly capture craft never show up - tried twice, but it worked the first time on Medium.

Mission 4 was one of the hardest of the last 1000 missions I've played in the compendium but in a frustrating way. Even on easy it took me 5+ tries. The rest of the missions were just okay.

This one is a fun gauntlet! A bit of a long mission but exciting the whole way through plus a few surprises. I felt like I had earned an E-Wing Gold Combat Medallion by the end of it.

I appreciate the effort that went into this one. I love/hate the final mission, but as others have said make sure you don't play it in XWAU as it will be unwinnable.

I rate this one so low because of mission 4, my absolute least favorite kind of mission: completely random whether or not it's possible to win. The timing of ships arrival depends on what the npc craft are doing. Sometimes (repeatedly for me) your friendlies accidentally destroy the mission critical craft theyre supposed to disable, or damage it too much that it dies instantly anyway once enemies come in. Sometimes they disable it too quickly which triggers the enemies to come in to attack it before you can get the other craft off you (a group of six interceptors all firing missiles at you so you cant really ignore them). The time I finally won, i intercepted a couple of my friendlies' own torpedos so they wouldn't damage the mission critical craft too quickly (it's stupid to ever need to do this to win and clearly it wasn't intended), and we ended up being able to destroy the factory where the wave that kept killing the mission critical craft spawned from before they could even launch.
Maybe if you fly it in exactly the correct path they had in mind it works out more consistently? But it's not clear. All the mission objectives say for my flight group are that i'm supposed to kill a factory, but if you head straight there, it'll mess up and you'll lose. If you try to clear mines around the factory first, you lose. If you try to kill the fighters that are all targeting you, you lose. If you help disable the freighters you lose. If you try to protect the freighters and nothing else, you lose. Really horrible design because of the interaction between the NPC craft.
The other missions in the battle were okay but this one was incredibly irritating.

Missions 3 and 4 were some of the most annoying missions I've ever played. The only way I could finish them was by parking on top of my mission critical craft and being a warhead-intercepting turret. It was frustrating and not fun at all. The other missions were okay.

This one is a bit of a mess. On the third mission, you have to order your wingmen not to destroy mission critical craft. You have to protect an enemy ship so it can dock with your friendly platform, but the platform will destroy the ship so you have to disable your own platform in order to win. Very annoying.

It's hard to even review this one because, having not read the other reviews first before playing it, I had no idea what was going on. The briefing map looked completely unrelated to the actual mission (as i was playing this one on medium). Apparently it's an arcade-style shooter on hard which fits the briefing map. On medium, it was an okay but confusing mission - first killing some rebel craft and then some modified TIE's, but I couldn't tell you why. It was an okay mission overall - just confusing.

This is one of those odd missions where the primary objectives are basically the introduction to the rest of the mission. You can complete it just by cruising in and inspecting three ships. Easy. But to get the secondary objectives and a good score, you need to kill lots and lots of x-wings and a-wings, then multiple cruisers. Not terrible but not a great mission overall.

I thought this one was particularly annoying. The idea was fine - destroy a base, capturing the fleeing command staff, and taking out the enemy starfighters that try to stop you from achieving these objectives. However, if you get tied up with an enemy fighter, your friendlies can succeed too quickly (even on hard) making you fail the mission for no apparent reason. And a secondary objective is at odds with what your friendlies are trying to accomplish. Confusing and annoying.

This mission was okay. There was nothing super special about it, but i had fun. Inspect some freighters, disable the ones carrying contraband, then protect the boarding craft from starfighters as they perform their docking operations. It was not bad - felt like one of the early missions in the main game's first battle - just a little less impressive.

Very short, straightforward mission. You basically just have to disable a craft after inspecting it then shoot down just a very small number of starfighters. Even on hard difficulty it wasn't that difficult and took only a few minutes to beat. There were no bugs. It was fine - just not overly original or anything.

This was a solid free mission. No bugs. No major surprises but it was fun to protect the boarding craft from mixed craft pirates. Not too difficult, even on hard difficulty, and easy to get a good score, and although it was lacking originality I enjoyed playing through it.

This was a fun one, but tough to get a high score. Figuring out which order and when to focus on the two groups of bombers and the two frigates was a fun challenge on Hard difficulty. And then the A-wings come to target you. Whew. Good multitasking, fun mission.
